Patina
The art of patina is a modern art which gives a beautiful old look to wall. This is a new art which is modern and old at the same time. An old art beside your own modern decorations create an attractive and innovative contrast in the eyes of the viewer. Due to the depth that patinas gives to wall, they make the places bigger than what they really are. Today stone-designed of patina has replaced the stones of construction industry due to their more competitive prices.
Techniques of patina
One of patina techniques is the technique of washing the color on walls. This way is so match with your decoration of light colors. Another technique of wall patina is copper patina technique which gives the color of copper and green to walls . It seems that the copper color of wall has changed to green colors during the time in some parts. So wall looks beautiful. This design is very suitable with the decorations of warm colors.
Technique of washing color
In this patina technique, we use the darker color mostly on edges of the wall or around the windows. It will be just like a real old wall. To meet this result, we apply a layer of light color on the wall firstly. Then we put a darker layer of color on the wall after the first color dries. Now before the second layer dries we rub it with a rag in some places irregularly. This stage should be done quickly before the top or first layer dries. To look more natural and a better result, we should rub a small area of the wall.
Now if we create any plaster ridges on the wall, the darker layer remains on these raised texture. In this way we create light and dark shadows on the wall. Sometimes we can use two or more different colors instead of one color. These two colors must be match to each other. To meet to this matching, we can first test both two colors on a cardboard and then paint them on the wall.
Copper patina technique
The copper patina is a turquoise, blue and green colors which is painted on copper or bronze colors. First we paint the wall with copper or bronze and let it to dry. Then we gently stroke on first layer of paint with a dipped sponge of green or turquoise color in some area irregularly. We can use both light and dark color of green and turquoise or even use some gold color and make the patina more beautiful.
Patina technique of raised stencil
Another way of making patina is using special stencil. We can create raised texture on patina with stencil. This will be an art masterpiece. To use stencil, first we stick it on the wall with adhesive tape. Then we paint several times on the stencil with a brush , roller or spatula. After drying color on the wall, we can remove stencil gently and now the design of stencil remains on the wall in a raised form. The color we use on stencil should not be so diluted because it drips on the wall.
For better result of patina we can use several techniques together. For example, we can use technique of copper patina with technique of stencil. Even we can apply two or more different colors on one stencil. Or after removing stencil, we can stroke colors with sponge on raised design of stencil or use gold color on the final design of stencil with brush.
