The supplies of alcohol ink
To make alcohol ink in a good result, we need some minimum supplies and materials as follow:
1- High quality alcohol ink colors
2- Yupo paper, canvas or any other non-porous surface of painting like glass, metal or ceramic tile
3- Blending solution of alcohol ink
4- Dropper
5- Drinking straw
6- Heat gun or hair drier
7- Varnish
Why do we need above mentioned supplies ?
To make alcohol ink, the surface of the work must be very smooth and non-porous. Otherwise, the ink can sink inside the surface. The Yupo paper is so smooth and unlike the normal paper, it is non-porous so it is suitable for alcohol ink. Glass, metal and ceramic tile are also smooth and act similar to Yupo paper. They are good surfaces for alcohol inks. Manufacturers make Yupo paper from polypropylene so it is water resistant and tear resistant. It is another advantage of Yupo papers.
To use less ink, we use blending solution. We add this solution to alcohol ink and make the color of ink more light. This solution is the mix of isopropyl alcohol and glycerin. The amount of isopropyl must be above 90% in the solution, because too much water and oil will spoil the quality of image.
How do we make alcohol ink ?
At first we must add blending solution on Yupo paper or other suitable surface. Now if we put one drop of alcohol ink on paper, it will be spread on the paper in a circle shape. We can use a dropper for putting color. If we add a new drop of alcohol ink next to the previous one, it will cover the previous drop partly. If we continue these new colored drops again and again, we will have many beautiful connected circles. Now if we add a drop of alcohol to the circles, it will create a transparent circle which enter to other circles and move its next circles and it will make a beautiful mixed design.
Now we can use heat gun to lead the colors across the surface and again create new more designs. We sould put the heat gun on cold air because alcohol is highly flammable and we must be careful. Also we can use drinking straw for moving colors on the surface. We should blow into the drinking straw on the colors to move them gently. But using heat gun is more useful because we can move a larger area of color by the help of it.
The pigments of alcohol ink are so sensitive to the light, so you must protect them with varnish. You should cover the artworks with spray of varnish after work is dried. Also you can use alcohol ink on canvas. But because canvas is a porous surface and it is not smooth, the ink will sink in it. So you should prepare the canvas for alcohol ink before using.

You should pay attention to the point that the two drawing of one image in alcohol ink is never exactly the same. Due to the nature of this painting, some differences will exist always.
